Worship Pastor

Greg Tanner

Greg Tanner served as Minister of Music at First Baptist Church Vernon from 1984 to 2021 until his retirement. Since then, God has called hiim as our part-time worship pastor. He earned his Bachelor of Church Music degree from Belmont College and earned his Master of Church Music from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1984. Greg and his wife Nina were married in 1972 and have been blessed with one daughter and three grandchildren. He is an ordained deacon and an ordained minister. His hobbies are fishing, hunting, and spending time with his grandchildren. His desire as worship pastor is to help lead people to a closer and more intimate relationship with the Lord through corporate and individual worship. His favorite Bible verse is Ephesians 3:20-21, "Now to Him who is able to do immeasureably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory to the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations."

Associate Pastor
DONOVAN WILKINSON

Donovan began working at FBC in October of 2014. He was licensed for gospel ministry in 2016, ordained in 2018, and is currently working towards his MDiv from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.


He is married to Marinda, and together they have 9 children and one granddaughter


His favorite Bible verse is Proverbs 3:5,6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths."

SANDRA GOODRUM

Sandra has worked at FBC since 1995! She is very loved and appreciated for all of her hard work. She was born and raised in Vernon and has lived here her whole life. She was married to the late Henry Goodrum for 47 years, and is blessed to have two beautiful daughters, Stephanie and Melanie, and four precious grandchildren, Quentin, Kyla, Ryson, and Rylen. Her hobbies include reading, bowling, and spending time with her grand kids. Her favorite Scripture is Psalm 46:10 "Be still, and know that I Am God".

EDUCATION SECRETARY

JONI LOCKETT

Longtime member of FBC Vernon, Joni Lockett became secretary of education in September of 2020. A Vernonite, born and raised, she is a Vernon College graduate with an Associate of Fine Arts degree. She and her husband Richard have been married since 1985, and blessed with a daughter, Lindsey, who is a public school teacher in the Tulsa area. She recently retired from Vernon College after 34 years of working there. Her hobbies are singing (especially in choir), shopping, and serving others. Her favorite Bible verse is 1 Peter 5:7 - "Cast all of your anxiety on Him because He cares for you."

mike klappenbach

Mike Klappenbach has been serving as our Care Minister since May of 2019 and is responsible for ministering to our senior adult community. Mike earned a B.B.A degree in 1975 and Master of Science degree in finance in 1976 from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. He and his wife Rhonda, both natives of Vernon, have 2 adult children and 6 grandchildren. Mike and Rhonda have been members of FBC Vernon since September of 1979. Mike retired from commercial radio in February of 2019, after 40 years as owner/operator of twin stations. He is an active deacon of FBC, ordained in 1982. Mike has a passion for evangelism and loves to share the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Children's Ministry Director

Marylin Leasure

Marylin has been serving as Children's Ministry Director since 2022. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education in 1976 and Master of Education in Education Leadership in 1985 from West Texas State University. She and her husband, Ray, have been members of FBC Vernon since 2004. They have been married since 1972 and have two adult children, four grand children and one great granddaughter. Marylin has been volunteering as a children's teacher since 1975 while finishing college and then during her tenure in public school education. She continues teaching at Vernon College and working with first year teachers in the North Texas area public schools. One of her favorite verses is, "But Jesus called the children to him and said, 'Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.'" Matthew 18:16
