Be The Church

What does it mean to you to be part of the "church"?  Attend Sunday morning service, pay your tithe, and enjoy an occasional luncheon?  What if "church" was not something you attend, but something YOU ARE!

The Bible (in 1 Corinthians 12 and Colossians 1, amongst other places) tells us that if we are believers in Jesus and followers of Him, WE ARE the church, corporately, filled with the Holy Spirit, redeemed to allow Jesus to live through us here on earth.  Being members of His living body, each of us has a unique purpose and spiritual gifting that allows the "church" to move forward, encouraging and uplifting the saints and reaching the lost for Him.
This is what BE THE CHURCH at FBC Vernon is!  This Monday night gathering will allow you a place to plug into the Body of Christ, with your unique calling and gift.  Currently there are multiple teams to be a part of, including:
  • Cooking & meal delivery
  • Construction
  • Homebound visitation
  • New member mentoring
  • Discipleship
  • Evangelism
  • Hospital/nursing home visitation
  • Intercessory prayer
  • Student mentoring
  • Encouragement cards
(you fill in the blank)*

Jesus said, "A new command I give you:  Love one another.  As I have loved you, so you must love one another.  By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another." (John 13:34-35).  When Jesus asked Peter to demonstrate his love for Him, He told him, "Feed my lambs." (John 21:15)  You are no closer to being like Jesus than when you are serving someone else - no agendas, no gain involved, just selfless unconditional love.  BE THE CHURCH provides you the opportunity to do just that, with a community of other believers, in a structured, safe environment.  It's hands-on "Jesus" training and a good time at that!
So come and join us, every Monday night at 6:00 pm!  We meet in the Sanctuary for prayer first, then head out into the town!
*Do you believe you are gifted in a specific way or have an idea for a needed outreach team?  BE THE CHURCH is driven by the congregation members, so we welcome any ideas you have.  Not sure what your spiritual gift is, or even what "spiritual gifting" is?  Rest assured, if you are a born again believer in Jesus Christ, you have spiritual gifts implanted in you from the Holy Spirit and have a place and purpose in His church.  Pastor Gib Baskerville would love to discuss these topics with you in more detail.
